Hello world

Hello world!

For those of you who don't know what this blog is about, my name is Caitlin Truesdale, and I am about to go to Italy (first time ever!) for the next two months as an intern for the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice. This is an amazing opportunity for me in more ways than one. It will be my first big trip abroad, my first one alone, first time working at such a world-renowned museum, and, get ready for it, my first time on an airplane. SO, lots of firsts here. I thought the best way for me to share these experiences with everyone back home, or anyone else interested in my little adventure, was to keep a blog. This is also my first time blogging, so bear with me and I hope you enjoy! Below is a small introduction to the trip and myself.
Proof I graduated and know things

I graduated from the University of New Hampshire this past spring and dual majored in Art History and
Italian studies. I'll be leaving tomorrow and staying abroad for nine weeks, right through the holidays. I aim to post at least once a week, so keep checking back to see what shenanigans I get up to.

I also have free time before and after my internship to go hostel hopping, something I have always wanted to do! I know I will be spending some time in Venice (obviously), as well as Rome and Florence. There are many more places I'd like to go, but when or where is as much a mystery to me as it is to you. The plan is to decide as I go, and let the people I meet and things I do lead the way. It's a practice in spontaneity.

Before I go, I'd like to include some thank yous, because so many people have helped me get here.

First and foremost to my mom and dad - you guys are the best support system a girl could ask for. You've been there for me the whole way helping and letting me meet these exciting new challenges on my own, because I know you're there if I falter.

Me, on the right, with some of my family
A big thank you to the rest of my family for loving me and helping me in so many ways. Special shout outs to: Briana, Jacob, Keira, and Corri - you are some of the first people I want to see when I get back!  Uncle David and Aunt Maryanne, the lovely backpack I will be bringing on this trip is thanks to them. Aunt Linda Q. and Uncle Larry for letting me store my car at your house while I'm away. Bampie and Aunt Linda S. for your love, support, and advice. Aunt Eloise for helping look over my application last Thanksgiving.

Thank you to the professors, staff, and students in the UNH CHI and Art History departments. So many of you went above and beyond helping me to gain the knowledge I needed to succeed and I am honored to have spent four years working with you.

Everyone in my church family, your love and support mean the world to me.

Anna Mei, you are one of my best friends and been so helpful with all of my newbie traveler questions. I can't wait for our next sleepover/rom-com weekend.

Lastly, thank you Tony, Kathy, Rosanne, Prudi, Mike, Al, John, Bill, and Marvin. Our Monday night Italian conversations over dinner and wine these past few months have been wonderful! Talking about adventures abroad and using the language has been indispensable. I'm excited to finally be going to this country we always talk about!

I hope to post again soon, once I've started my journey.

For now - off to Rome!
